Recruitment Process
Sponsorship for overseas applicants
Ramsay Health Care is an approved sponsor of business visas with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. Our sponsorship obligations compel us to give first consideration for all roles to suitable Australian applicants and to sponsor overseas staff only when none can be found.
Therefore, when selecting participants for the Gradplus program Ramsay Health Care consider applications in the following order:
- Local applicants – i.e. Australians who have obtained their qualifications within Australia; then, if there are remaining places available
- Overseas applicants locally qualified – i.e. Nurses from overseas who have completed their qualifications in Australia; then, if there are remaining places available
- Overseas applicants qualified overseas.
For this reason NSW and Queensland do not offer sponsorship, as they have an enormous number of applications from locally qualified nurses and fill their available places easily. In the other states, applications are welcome and will be considered for any places that remain available after the local applicants are considered.
Overseas Nurses and Australian Registration as a nurse
We find that overseas qualified nurses accepted to the Gradplus program often miss the start of the program due to delays in obtaining their registration which in turn delays the grant of their visa.
Therefore, we advise all overseas applicants to apply for Australian registration as soon as possible following the completion of their course as the registration process often takes a long time.
Registration is an essential part of applying for any nursing role here in Australia, as well as being an essential element in obtaining a business visa.
